Presentation
The Functional and Adaptive Biology unit (BFA) is one of the research units of the Pôle des Sciences du Vivant, part of the Faculty of Sciences of the Université Paris Cité, located on the Grands Moulins campus. It stands out for its work in integrative biology. All the themes developed by its teams contribute to improving health by deepening our knowledge of living organisms and diseases, developing innovative treatments and conducting public health research. The research areas cover a wide range, from in silico to preclinical and clinical approaches, tackling major public health issues such as the impact of the environment, whether nutrients or xenobiotics, on the emergence of chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes and obesity, fertility disorders and neurodegenerative pathologies. This interdisciplinary collaboration, bringing together bioinformaticians, chemists, biochemists, physiologists and clinicians within the same unit, is a unique asset in the local and national scientific ecosystem.

The BFA unit is identified as UMR 8251 CNRS – Université Paris Cité, and comprises 7 teams, including an INSERM ERL. It comprises :
- 12 researchers,
- 33 teacher-researchers,
- 5 clinicians,
- 25 technical, engineering and administrative staff (18 BIATSS and 7 ITA).
Each year, the unit also welcomes between 30 and 40 non-permanent staff (PhD students, post-docs, contract staff), as well as some 50 trainees, thus contributing to an enriching scientific and educational dynamic.
